South Africa’s Heritage Day is a time to reflect on the rich cultural diversity, traditions, and shared history that shape the nation. This year, Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is inviting the public to celebrate in a truly special way.
On Wednesday, 24 September 2025, the museum will open its doors to the public free of charge from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to bring along their family, friends, and guests to immerse themselves in a day of art, culture, and heritage.
The museum will be alive with art, culture, food, and performances for all ages. Come and enjoy a day to explore, create, and connect with community at the largest museum dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.
As a special highlight, media and Zeitz MOCAA Members will have exclusive access to a conversation with Albie Sachs, reflecting on his exhibition Spring is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs, curated by Dr Phokeng Setai.
Highlights of the Day
•Multilingual architecture tours in Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa, isiZulu, SiSwati, and Tshivenda, exploring the 101-year history of the Grain Silo.
•Guided exhibition tours, offering unique insights into the museum’s collection and current shows.
•Hands-on art workshops for all ages, including tote bag design for teens and adults, and colourful windsock kite-making for children.
•Outdoor food court with local flavours to enjoy.
•Atrium and Rooftop Terrace transformed into vibrant social hubs.
•Cultural performances that bring South Africa’s heritage to life.
•Live DJ sets to keep the festive energy flowing throughout the day.
