Kwa Mai Mai kicks of uShuni Womhlaba regional auditions with a bang!

This past weekend, Kwa Mai Mai was abuzz with excitement as hundreds of contestants flocked to Johannesburg for the first regional auditions of the ground-breaking new music competition show, uShuni Womhlaba.

From June 21 to June 23, aspiring musicians from all over Gauteng came together to showcase their talents, hoping to secure a spot in the highly anticipated show set to premiere on SABC 1 on July 7, 2024.

The vibrant venue was alive with the sounds of Maskandi, Afro-pop, Isicathamiya, and Mbhaqanga, as contestants performed in front of the show’s esteemed judges and presenters. The auditions were graced by the presence of all the show’s key figures, giving participants the unique opportunity to meet and impress the faces of uShuni Womhlaba.

Resident judges Big Zulu, Sho Madjozi, Msaki and Phuzekhemisi, alongside Ukhozi FM’s Lucky Nkosi as guest judge, watched as contestants sang their hearts out, with some receiving standing ovations. The hosts of the show, Mpumi “Msakazi” Mlambo and Mandla “Njinji Wami” Magwaza, held it down like the superstars they are.

Executive Producer of uShuni Womhlaba and founder of Thabo Mphelo Films, Mr. Thabo Mphelo, expressed his excitement and confidence in the show’s potential to uncover South Africa’s top musical talents.

“South Africa is indeed full of talent. uShuni Womhlaba is the first of its kind on the music competition scene. Nothing like this show has been seen before, and it was evident from the caliber of musicians that came out to audition. We are truly honored to see that the first auditions were a success. We can’t wait for the regional auditions in Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, and Kwa-Zulu Natal,” said Thabo Mphelo.

Although the Gauteng auditions have concluded, hopefuls from the region still have a chance to audition online via social media and the official website www.ushuniwomhlaba.tv.
