Limpopo to Honour Excellence in Sport and Recreation

The Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is set to celebrate excellence in sport and recreation when it hosts the prestigious Limpopo Sport and Recreation Awards Ceremony this Saturday at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane.

The annual awards ceremony recognises outstanding achievements by sportsmen, sportswomen, teams, coaches and administrators across various sporting codes, celebrating both on-field success and off-field contributions that continue to shape the province’s rich sporting legacy.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Funani Jerry Maseko said the awards go beyond individual accolades and acknowledge the collective effort required to grow sport in the province.

“The Sport and Recreation Awards recognise individual achievements and the collective effort that drives sport and recreation in our province. This event reflects government’s commitment to nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity and creating a legacy of excellence in Limpopo sport,” said MEC Maseko.

Athletes will be honoured for performances recorded during the 2024/25 financial year, with awards to be presented across a wide range of categories. These include Sport Star of the Year, Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Disabled Sportsman of the Year, Disabled Sportswoman of the Year, Sports Team of the Year, among others.

The ceremony is expected to attract key stakeholders from the sporting fraternity, government officials, athletes and invited guests, as Limpopo continues to position itself as a province committed to talent development, transformation and sporting excellence.
