New Generation African artists are invited to apply for a fully supported residency programme culminating in a national exhibition and auction.

The 2Roads Art Foundation today announced that applications are open for the 2026 Gallery on the Greens Residency, its flagship artist development programme. The call for applications runs from 9 to 31 July 2026, and is open to new generation  / early-practice African artists seeking dedicated time, structured support, and meaningful market access.

The Gallery on the Greens Residency is designed to bridge the gap between artistic creation and sustainable visibility. 4 artists will be selected to participate in a fully supported residency period commencing in September 2026, with all selected artists guaranteed a showcase at the foundation’s annual Exhibition Week in October 2026 and the  Art Auction on towards the end of October 2026.

The 2026 residency is structured around three synergistic pillars that provide holistic support to participating artists:

  • Residency — Dedicated time, studio space, and material resources for the creation of new works, supported by curatorial guidance and regular professional feedback throughout the residency cycle.
  • Education — Workshops and masterclasses focused on artistic technique, art history, critical theory, portfolio development, and professional practice. Guest lecturers and mentorship from established artists, curators, and industry professionals are integral to the programme.
  • Entrepreneurship — Training in financial management, branding, intellectual property rights, grant writing, market access strategies, and professional portfolio development, equipping artists to manage their practice as a sustainable career.

Each selected artist receives a stipend, studio space and materials support, curatorial guidance, and a guaranteed platform at the foundation’s flagship exhibition and auction event.

Building on a Strong Proof of Concept

The 2026 programme builds on the success of the foundation’s 2025 residency, its inaugural year, which received more than 200 applications, resulted in seven artists exhibited. The 2025 edition demonstrated that the talent pipeline is strong, that the residency has pan-African reach, and that there is a credible market and fundraising story to build from.

“Gallery on the Greens moved the foundation from concept to execution,” said Kabelo Molaudzi, Foundation Lead. “The residency achieved pan-African reach, credible mentors and partners gave the programme legitimacy, and the auction proved there is both a market and a fundraising story to build from. The 2026 programme takes everything we learnt and executes with greater rigour and ambition.”
