EmpowaMen Summit to Drive Change for the Boy Child and Men with Zero Suicide Focus

Read Time:2 Minute, 18 Second

EmpowaMen is hosting the EmpowaMen International Men’s Day Summit on Saturday, 16 November at Mosaiek in Fairlands. EmpowaMen, a subsidiary of Empowaworx, is a platform that dives deep into addressing the roots of toxic masculinity through open dialogue by creating a safe space for men to be vulnerable and accountable. The aim is to redefine masculinity, encourage allyship, and inspire positive societal impact.

This year, the summit aims to highlight the 2024 International Men’s Day Theme: Zero Male Suicide by addressing the underlying factors that contribute to this crisis. This segment will provide practical tips for recognising warning signs, seeking help, and fostering supportive environments.

With the theme Zero Suicide in Men, the EmpowaMen Summit has garnered the support of Metro FM, Primedia Outdoor, What About The Boys (a Primestars initiative), and #NoExcuse.

Anticipating an audience of 4,000 men, the Summit will present a line-up of speakers dedicated to fostering authenticity and displaying vulnerability as strength.

Esteemed actor Dr John Kani will deliver the opening keynote on Man and Identity, followed by a series of discussions exploring topics such as dad rights, mental health, divorce, spirituality, addiction, and the future of masculinity.

Together, we can build a powerful movement of brotherhood that promotes accountability and empowers men to become true allies.

Together we can eradicate the culture of pointing fingers and blaming each other (#MenAreTrash) and adopt a culture filled with transparency, accountability, shared trust, and honour.

Highlights of the EmpowaMen Conference:

  • Man & Health Focus – In honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting men’s mental and physical health in the spotlight. Professor Shingai Mutambirwa and Hakeem Anderson will address the stigmas surrounding men’s health.
  • Man & Substance Abuse Focus – Co-founder of Joe Public, Dr. Pepe Marais, and motivational speaker Abner Mariri discuss addiction and the journey toward healing.
  • The Future of a Boy Child – Nkosinathi Moshoana, of ‘What about the boys?’  unpacks how societal expectations, educational environments, and peer influences affect their development into healthy, well-rounded men.
  • Man & Spirituality and Wealth Focus – Pastor Kabelo Charisma and renowned speaker Billy Selekane share ways spirituality and financial wellness can empower men towards a fulfilling life.

Kirsten Alexander, Head of EmpowaMen says, “She’s excited to be spearheading a platform that is intentional about being an inclusive platform, that dares every individual identifying as male, regardless of their position in life, sexual preference, stature, or nature, to become proactive change agents within their homes, workplaces, and communities.”

EmpowaMen Co-Founder Simphiwe Masiza remarked, “We are looking forward to hosting men who are committed to change—not only within themselves but in the communities around them. Through collaboration and connection, we can truly make a difference and empower men to be true allies.”
