Moti Cares Brings Comfort to Tsakani Township as Part of its Goal to Donate 20,000 Blankets

15 July 2025: The Moti Cares Foundation continued its mission to bring warmth and dignity to vulnerable communities this past weekend, with a heartfelt handover held in Tsakani township in Brakpan. The Foundation’s latest handover saw 2,700 blankets, 2,300 loaves of bread, and 700 sweet packs distributed to families and residents facing the full force of Gauteng’s winter.

This activation formed part of the Foundation’s flagship initiative, the Moti Cares Winter Drive, which aims to donate 20,000 blankets to vulnerable communities across South Africa by the end of August. With the most critical months of the season underway, the Foundation has already passed the halfway mark, having brought comfort and aid to nearly 15,000 beneficiaries so far.

The Tsakani event wasn’t just about blankets and bread – it was about presence, community, and partnership. Among this weekend’s donations, 210 blankets were set aside and sent to support flood victims in the Eastern Cape, where many families are still recovering from the devastation caused by heavy rains earlier this year.

After several days of intense flooding in the region, hundreds of people were left displaced, without adequate shelter, clothing, or access to basic supplies. Moti Cares stepped in after a call for aid from leaders on the ground, responding swiftly to help restore warmth and dignity to those hardest hit by the crisis.

Faith-based leaders from the Anglican Church and the Southern Council of Churches were present to assist with the distribution and coordinate the logistics of getting aid to affected families.

“We’ve been trying to assist those impacted by the devastating floods in the Eastern Cape,” said Cleopatra Ntshingila, a member of both the Anglican Church and Southern Council of Churches. “We reached out to Moti Cares to help because so many people are displaced without food and without blankets. We’re grateful that Moti Cares responded so generously. This donation is going to make a real difference.”

In addition to the main handover, Moti Cares also extended its outreach this weekend to the Impilo child centre, a home for vulnerable children and infants, with a special delivery of blankets to help keep them warm through winter.

The Foundation’s efforts have already brought relief to community members in Katlehong, Langlaagte, Newclare, Westbury, Soweto, and Turffontein, as the campaign continues to expand its reach across Gauteng and beyond.

“We can’t control the weather, but we can change how it feels for someone who has nothing to keep them warm. It’s amazing the difference a simple blanket and a fresh loaf of bread can make to those who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Zunaid Moti, founder of Moti Cares. “This winter drive is our way of standing shoulder to shoulder with people to say: you are valued, you are worthy, and your struggle is not invisible.

Moti Cares, a philanthropic initiative established by Moti, is focused on creating lasting, real-world impact through humanitarian efforts. While the Foundation supports a wide range of causes throughout the year, including education and crisis response, the annual Winter Blanket Drive has become one of its most meaningful and far-reaching interventions in South Africa, bringing hope and relief during the country’s coldest months.

Each activation is driven by public nominations, community insights, and trusted local partners, ensuring the campaign is not only impactful but deeply rooted in care and local relevance.
As the season continues, Moti Cares remains committed to ensuring no one is left behind, with more handovers planned every weekend until the end of August.
