Ushuni Womhlaba Premieres Tonight at 6 PM on SABC 1: A New Era in South African Music Television!
The wait is finally over! Ushuni Womhlaba, the groundbreaking new reality music competition show, will premiere tonight on SABC 1 at 6 PM. This highly anticipated show promises to be a spectacular showcase of South Africa’s rich musical heritage and diverse talent.
Ushuni Womhlaba is set to be a spectacular showcase of South Africa’s rich musical heritage and diverse talent that’s going set to revolutionize the television landscape with its unique focus on traditional music genres such as Maskandi, Mbhaqanga, Isicathamiya, and Afro-pop.
This first-of-its-kind show aims to unearth and celebrate the hidden musical gems from every corner of Mzansi, giving talented musicians the platform they deserve.
The show will is hosted by the dynamic duo of Ukhozi FM’s Mandla Magwaza, affectionately known by his listeners as “Njinji wami,” and Metro FM’s Mpumi Mlambo, aka “MSAKAZI.”
Judging the competition are some of South Africa’s most celebrated artists:
- Rapper and songwriter Big Zulu, known for his hit singles like “Imali Eningi” and “Inhlupheko”
- Talented composer and singer, Msaki
- Rapper, musician, actress, and poet, Sho Madjozi
- Veteran Maskandi musician, Bab’ Phuzekhemisi
These judges bring a wealth of experience and expertise, ensuring that only the best talent makes it through.
As the show premieres tonight and over the next 16 weeks, viewers can expect a thrilling journey as contestants from across the country compete for the coveted title.
The auditions have already set the tone, with incredible performances witnessed Kwa Mai Mai in Johannesburg, Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape and Emalahleni in Mpumalanga. The excitement now moves to KwaZulu-Natal, where more aspiring musicians will get their chance to shine this coming weekend.

Auditions are ongoing! This weekend, Emalahleni Civic Theatre in Emalahleni was buzzing with talent as aspiring musicians came out in numbers to audition. The last regional auditions will take place in KwaZulu-Natal on the 13th and 14th of July.
